About Me

I was born in Upper Hutt, New Zealand on March 15, 1973.  I lived there until April, 1988 (I was 15 for those who can't subtract :-) ) when my mother, step father, sister and I moved to the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

I continued with high school, attending Coombabah State High School until I graduated in 1990.

I was accepted into the Rotary Youth Exchange Programme for a year and went to live in Sao Sepe, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil in January, 1991.  It was one of those experiences you never forget and changes your outlook on a lot of things.

When I returned, I moved to Brisbane to attend the Bachelor of Information Technology course at the University of Queensland (UQ), St. Lucia Campus.  During the last year of my course I was approached to work as a research assistant for the then Department of Computer Science at UQ.  The research was involved migrating Ingres ABF applications and the associated Ingres database to the Oracle platform and was sponsered by Oracle Corporation.

After the research project finished I obtained a job with Oracle Corporation in the Brisbane office, working with the Design and Migration Services group which then changed its name to Partner Technical Services (PTS).  After almost four years in the Brisbane office PTS had grown from three employees to twenty three!

I had always wanted to travel to Europe to be nozy and see what was there, so I looked around for opportunites over that way.  I ended up staying with Oracle, moving into the Migration Technology Group based out of Dublin, Ireland, working as a Product Manager.  If you ask I'll explain what the job really entails, but it's not easy unless you have some computing knowledge!
