| FAVORITES | In the last decade homosexuality has come out of the "closet." Homosexuals have their own communities, their own magazines and newspapers, even their own churches. Buf if you think that it hasnt as yet touched your church, you're probably wrong. If you attend a church that has more than fifty members, chances are someone in your church is struggling wigh homosexuality. This issue is one that we as Christians need to face in a compassionate manner. THE FACTS Opinions vary greatly on the causes of homosexuality. Some people say it's purely a matter of genetic orientation. Others say it is purely a matter of choice. The past experiences of homosexuals do, however, reveal several consistent patterns. Most homosexuals had difficulty bonding with their parent of the same sex. Many experienced some form of sexual abuse in the past. Rejection by their peers also impacted many homosexuals, especially being labeled by their peers as "queer" or "faggot". God's Word speaks plainly on the issue of homosexual behavior. It condemns it in strong language: "Do not be decieved: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters.....nor homosexual offenders.....will inherit the kingdom of God" (1 Corinthians 6:9-10; see also Leviticus 18:22; Romans 1:26-27). THE HOPE God's Word may condemn homosexual behavior as sin, but it doesn't leave the homosexual in that sin with no hope. Paul condemns homosexual behavior, as well as many other sinful acts, in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. But then in verse 11 he moves on the say: "And that is what some of you were." Did you catch that? The writer Paul knew that some of the members of the Corinthian church were former homosexuals! But they were also "washed...sanctified...justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." CONCLUSION If you or someone you know is struggling with homosexual tendencies, don't give up. There is hope. God has promised "hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11) to every Christian.
