Sara Watkins has become one of the highest-acclaimed fiddlers in the nation. Her contribution to Nickel Creek is unfathomable, and Sara is still so humble and sweet. This is her story.
Sara grew up in a humble Christian home in Southern California, alongside her brother Sean Watkins. (I think I've heard them mention another sibling, brother perhaps, but haven't found official proof yet). They were introduced into Bluegrass at a young age, and had picked up instruments at a very early time in their lives.
Sara had been playing the fiddle since she was six, and with her family, had been to several bluegrass performances and festivals. Her instructor was buddies with Chris and Sean's, and through that mutual bond, had met. Seemingly chosen by fate, she and Sean ran into a talented young boy Sara's age. Chris Thile, and Sara and Sean Watkins hit it off, and their parents urged them to create "a little Bluegrass band."
And so it started. With her immennse addition to the wonders of Nickel Creek, it is hard to encompass in little more than pages and pages of writing. But needless to say, Sara Watkins has definitely made something of herself.
Sara has done so many things in such a short life. She sang and played for her brother in his recent solo album, 26 Miles. Sara even became the Arizona State Fiddle Champion when she was only 15! Sara often writes and helps write songs for the band. She sings solos and back-up for Nickel Creek and the band's friend Glen Phillips. She delivers a crisp, tastey flavor of fiddle magic to the music that ebbs and flows from the music that is Nickel Creek.
Sara has been a featured teacher and performer at several fiddle camps, and enjoys returning to work with young adults in their musicianship. She is a
talented writer (take a look at her jounal entries in the official site), and seems to have a wonderful aura about her. Sara Watkins is truly inspirational, and is a wonderful example for aspiring fiddlers and other musicians, and basic human beings alike. Having met her myself, I can bet my life on the fact that she is incredibly sweet, generous, and so very kind. Her intellect is refreshingly keen, and her personality glows with something indescribeable.
In conclusion, Sara can simply not be beat. She's a wonderful woman, with a talent that succumbs to no other. Her personality is golden, she's beautiful and kind, and has a great fashion sense to boot! ;oP
All in all, Sara Watkins is a wonderful musician and a FABULOUS person.
