The Landsdown, February 10th
Many a happy faces on this fine evening were bopping round the room. It was remarkable because it is rare for Lewes to host such a bunch of hip young lads. The full audience that Dr Razzu and Osmosis had attracted was a credit to their growing popularity.
Osmosis opened their set with 'Prizefighter' their foot-stomping, string-breaking riot of a tune and followed it up with a collection of everybodies favourites - including Pamelawhich certainly got us smiling! They rallied well when Sam broke a string managing (after some initial faffing about) to launch into 'mobile rocket house' which didn't require Sam's vocals. They boys gave everything during their songs but were let down in the gaps in between when the efforts they made to joke with the audience were let down by the sense that they were all very self concious doing it.
Dr Razzu, however, entered the stage with their usual 'too cool' 'fuck you' attitude, which is ok when they leave it on stage - ah-hm! yet again they produced a tight well performed set, despite the fact that James seemed to be suffering from man flu. One of their strengths lies in the vocal linge, good melodies and strong harmonies which are made powerful through the use of two vocalists as oposed to a lead and a backing vocalist. Alex was sporting a colourful poncho and as usual the whole room was enjoying these guys - espiecially when they pulled out a well rehearshed cover version of 'I want to hold you hand'.
This was a great gig - something that hasn't happened in lewes for ages, in fact probably not since the last star gallery gig over a year ago - thank you boys!
