Monday

Discuss Paleontology.  Explain what a paleontologist does.  Talk about the famous paleontologist Paul Sereno and his discovery of the new dinosaur species Jobaria tiguidensis. 

Students will complete a Virtual Field Trip on fossils.

Tuesday

Students will read about Jobaria on a website and review fact sheet. 

Students will make their own fact sheet.

Students will read the National Geographic announcement from the National Geographic Web site on the discovery of Jobaria.

Wednesday

Students will visit a website to learn about the steps involved in excavating dinosaur fossils.  They will complete a notecard flipbook listing each step and why each step is important.

Students will watch Dinosaurs: What They Left Behind video

Thursday

Assessment.  Students will write journal entries pretending they are on a dig. 

Friday

Field Trip to the Falls of the Ohio.

Write journal entry about the trip.

Participate in Who Wants to be a Millionaire game show activity, the Fossil Edition.
