Once Before
99 Shawna L.
To my Mother

I've studied the way you move,
why you do the things you do.
Why do I have to hurt myself,
to get to you?
Looking into a mirror,
I see a reflection of pain.
Though I've tried for years,
somethings will never change.
"I swear I've seen you once before,
but I remember such a small and helpless,
little girl."
With innocence in her smile,
and love in her laugh.
No time for childish fantasies,
all must forget the past.
Once before I would have cried for you,
I would have loved you with that love of a child.
Once before I would have held you,
and craved to see your smile.
But I see youself inside my eyes,
this pain I can never set free.
Forever you will always be,
this imcomplete part of me.
