| The M4 is the fastest way to the Blue Mountains - when you pass Woodford Station keep an eye out on the left for arrows to turn into Park Road if you miss Park Road continue until you pass a cream toilet block and take the next left which is Valley Road - if you enter Park Road take the first right into Railway Parade and continue to Valley Road and turn left - drive to the end of Valley Road - veer left at the sign to Terrace Falls onto the dirt road and proceed for 500 metres to the big car park. You can park here or drive up to the smaller car park at the start of the Terrrace Falls track. The dirt road continues to Terrace Falls Road. It can be negotiated by a two wheel drive in dry weather as long as you take care on the humps. There are several small car parks along the way with tracks which lead to the creek and waterfalls and a track which takes you through a beautiful gum forest. TERRACE FALLS TO VICTOR FALLS - 2hrs return or 1.5hrs if you return by fire trail. This walk is graded as easy. If you are unfit it would be challenging and grade medium as it is steep uphill there and steep downhill on the return. Start at the small car park with the sign. The track is a well maintained single file track with rock and wooden stairs, the difficult bits are fenced. I think this track would be very slippery in the wet. I walked this track on a cloudy, humid day in summer (very dry) and found several places slippery. The beginning of the track is downhill and quite steep. You walk through glorious gum forests with tree ferns, giant ferns and a host of other ferns and rainforest plants - remember to look up into the tree tops to see the ferns and plants growing in the canopy. As you walk down the track you will walk between two magestic monkey gums (some of the trees are labeled) - to your left are huge ferns and black wattle you can hear the tranquil sounds of the creek as it meanders on its way - when you come to the fork the left heads to the swimming hole and the right continues on to the waterfalls. As you continue your journey there are beautiful fern covered rock overhangs, I am sure these would drip water after rain as there are wooden stepping stones to keep your toes dry. Keep walking past the tree ferns on your left to a lovely little waterfall, cross the creek - the rocks are very slippery, my hiking boots did not grip - nearly drowned the new camera. There are trees across the track as you climb up the hill, they are high enough to crawl under with a day pack on. After walking a bit further you cross the creek again, this time there are rocks and a fallen tree - I chose the tree as it looked less slippery. There is a pool here with a little waterfall and a large tree which has fallen in front of the fall. The water is deliciously cool. Take the left track at the fork, continue across the creek with the funny stepping stones, keep to the left, a bit further up the hill is a track which veers left and a sign to Victor falls. It is a short but steep track. Victor Falls are very beautiful - falling on each side of a huge fern covered rock overhang into a pool with a little sandy beach. A great place to have a rest. I took one hour from the carpark to Victor Falls. This is a slow time as stopped to admire the flora and take photographs. It is mainly uphill. You could return the same way - which would be mainly downhill until you come to Bedford Pool at the bottom of the steep climb to the carpark - maybe you could enjoy a swim first. OR If you are tired you can go back to the original track and continue up the hill a little way to the firetrail - turn right then right again - it is a 20-30 minute walk back to the car, depending on how fast you walk. If you turn left at the firetrail you can walk along the fire trail until you see some big logs and regeneration area, there is a fence and a sort of a gate. Opposite this on the left of the firetrail you will see a small trail - cross the little creek and you can walk through a most magnificent gum forest. LONGER WALK If you would like a longer walk - when you reach the firetrail turn left - continue until you come to a fork - take the right fork, continue until you reach the dirt section of Baths Road, turn left walk to the end and you will come to the loop which takes in Federal, Junction, Adelina and Cataract Falls this is a very long walk (approximately 10 kilometres) and should not be attempted if you are not fit. |
