Public Affairs GlaxoSmithKline Research Triangle Park, N.C. 27709 April 3, 2001 RE: Lotronex Dear Ramona Duboise: It is the understanding of the Lotronex Action Group from both the Food and Drug Administration and GlaxoSmithKline that talks are being held currently regarding the re-introduction of Lotronex to the market. While talks have been on-going for several months, we would like to remind those with GSK that Lotronex has been off the market for over five months. I need not remind those at GSK that this has been five months of needless suffering for those whom have substantially benefitted from Lotronex. I would, however, like to remind you that no affective alternative treatment exists for the symptoms of IBS with diarrhea which include severe abdominal discomfort, multiple urgent daily bouts of diarrhea, depression, panic attacks, social introversion and a variety of other symptoms. The Lotronex Action Group steering committee and full membership are extremely disappointed and frustrated with the pace of action on both sides. As we realize this is a complicated issue, we urge you to work with the FDA to make this issue a top priority and resolve it as soon as possible. While the LAG believes both sides are working in good faith to resolve the issue, we question why the negotiations are taking so long. For those of us whom benefitted greatly from Lotronex, the issue is simple. We had access to the only medicine that allowed us to live normal lives without pain and suffering from our illness and now we do not. We trust you will forward this email to the appropriate parties within GSK. Also, we would like to reaffirm to all involved parties that the Lotronex Action Group is a grass-roots group of people whom formerly used and benefitted from Lotronex. The LAG is not affiliated nor receives any funding from any pharmaceutical company.
