| GALADRIEL: (pours water into the mirror) Will you look into the Mirror? FRODO: What will I see? GALADRIEL: Even the Wisest cannot tell, for the Mirror shows many things. Things that were, things that are, and some things, that have not yet come to pass. (FRODO looks into the Mirror, and is horrified to see Middle-Earth in ruin and all his friends in despair, and the Eye of Sauron appears and tugs at the Ring.. FRODO gasps and falls on his back) GALADRIEL: I know what it is you saw, for it is also in my mind. It is what will come to pass if you should fail. The Fellowship is breaking; it has already begun. He will try to take the Ring. You know of whom I speak. One by one, it will destroy them all. FRODO: (thinking) If you ask of me, I will give you the One Ring. GALADRIEL: You offer it to me freely. I do not deny that my heart has greatly desired this.... (suddenly towering and turning blue (lol) in place of a Dark Lord you will have a queen! Not Dark but beautiful and terrible as the dawn! Treacherous as the sea! Stronger than the foundations of the Earth! All shall love me and despair! (turning back to normal, catching her breath) I pass the test. I will diminish, and go into the West, and remain Galadriel. FRODO: I cannot do this alone. GALADRIEL: You are a Ringbearer, Frodo. To bear a Ring of Power is to be alone. This task was appointed to you, and if you do not find a way, no one will. FRODO: Then I know what I must do. It's just... I'm afraid to do it. GALADRIEL: Even the smallest person can change the course of the future. |
| The Lady Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) is the ruler of Lothlorien. She bears one of the 3 Rings of Power (Nenya) and uses it to strengthen her realm. Galadriel is the grandmother of Arwen Evenstar and mother-in-law of Lord Elrond. While Frodo stays in Lothlorien, she is tempted by the Ring, but passes the test. She gives Frodo the light of Earendil, a light that "will shine where it is dark". |
