The Films:
The making of the films has been a long,
long process, with preliminary work dating as far back as 1996. Peter
Jackson, the New Zealand director, had always wanted to produce the films,
and as such he and his wife, Fran Walsh, set about writing a script for
them.
One of the only companies willing
to take such a huge project on was New
Line Cinema, who granted Peter Jackson the rights to start production.
The first film, The Fellowship
of the Ring was released Christmas 2001, to much applause.
The second film, The Two Towers was released
Christmas 2002, with the third and final part of the story, The
Return of the Ring, scheduled for release at Christmas
2003. |
