Topps published "The Fellowship Update Series" in 2002. Instead of autograph cards, packs contained randomly inserted new base cards together with "Memorabilia Cards" containing a swatch of material. These 8 memorabilia cards were unique as they all contained actual clothing used to make the actors costumes and uniforms. These cards add another dimension to collecting as they add texture and a real feeling of what the finished article felt and looked like. It would have been fairer if Topps made it clearer on the cards that the material is not necessarily screen worn. Also, as the cards are very thick, its quite difficult to get album sleeves the right size. Standard sleeves tend to pinch these cards and extra thick sleeves add risk to them falling out. Cards, in my opinion, were meant to be displayed in an album, not left on shelves in plastic cases. Apart from my minor gripe, these are very beautiful cards and definitely worth collecting. Now if only Topps could advise us of the correct fitting sleeves. Arwen's Riding outfit, Bilbo's Rivendell Waistcoat and Frodo's Elven Nightshirt inserted in ratios 1 in every 180 packs, the rest inseted 1 in every 45 packs. |
