Popularity will continue to determine the value of cards until at least the end of 2004. For example Aragorn was issued in the same quantities as Sam and Galadriel, although his card can sell for up to 4 times the value of theirs.
Gandalf also carries a higher premium, again same quantity as the largest issues in this series, but his popularity coupled with the fact its the only card signed by Ian Mckellen, adds to people paying more for his card. Elrond and Saruman were issued in exactly the same quantities as Legolas so by rights they should be priced very closely. Alas, image once again, appears to hold sway over the number of acual cards issued sometimes when it comes to the price you pay. You will soon discover that popularity, good looks and hype seems just as important to the present day collector as scarcity.
From 2005 I believe the secondary market will eventually be based more closely on the number of cards actually issued as the trilogy becomes more of a distant but very happy memory.

Topps cards guarantee a method of owning a genuine autograpgh.
As good as eBay is for providing a marketplace for autograpghs, if you are contemplating buying a poster or photo signed by an actor from the trilogy be very careful. COA's (certificates of authenticity) are nothing more than a piece of paper run off a home printer so do not count for much. If you are unsure whether to bid, use the genuine autograpghs on this site as  a reference guide to that actors autograph. I sometimes cringe at the price fake autograpgh photo's and posters sometimes realise on eBay. With so many suspect and rogue items out there, why take any risks? With Topps you get the genuine thing!
