The Death of Isildur and Boromir
There are many connections between the two. They are both of the same race of Men but although Boromir is from Gondor and Isildur from Rohan they both fall to the temptation of the ring.
Both Boromir and Isildur start off with good intentions, to defeat the Dark Lord but eventually the power of The Ring prevails and clouds their judgement. They are both killed as a result of the enemy searching for the One Ring and they are both shot through the upper body with arrows and finally set to rest in the Great River.

The difference is that Boromir saw the error of his ways and therefore died with honour. To show this, Boromir is set to rest in an elven boat, on his back wit his shield and horn of Gondor at his side showing the man he was and still is even though he fell to the temptation of the Ring. He was not totally overcome by the object of power and so did not change him permanently therefore is set on his back showing that he is still the man he always was.
Isildur, on the other hand died face down with only the arrows showing above the water. This isnt a honourable death as you cannot see his face and therefore a passing stranger would not know who he is, symbolizing that The Ring had changed Isildur so that he was not himself. The lack of objects around him such as in Boromirs funeral shows that The Ring has stripped him of who and what he used to be.
