| The Fellowship is broken, it is already begun: the Wizard fallen at the chasms of Moria and the Captain of Gondor struck down by the Uruks at Amon Hen. Frodo and Sam wander now across the Emyn Muil, a maze of razor-sharp rocks as far as the eye can see and the elf, the man and the dwarf chase the Uruk-Hai across the plains of Rohan in hope of rescuing the kidnapped halfling. Yet an unseen danger approaches, for there is another who wants the Ring Frodo and Sam are lost in the Emyn Muil as our story begins and to make matters worse they are being followed by an unseen creature unknown to us for now. In the cover of night, the shriveled Gollum attacks the suspecting hobbits. Gollum is a deranged creature addicted to the Ring, once a Hobbit and now reduced to an ill, sickly being. But the hobbits were desperate, and in exchange for Gollums freedom, the vile creature will lead them to the Black Gate of Mordor. Meanwhile, Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli race across the plains of Rohan tracking down the Uruk-Hai. Rohan is the kingdom of the horse-lords, a high race of Men renowned for their horseback skills in battle. Edoras, capital city of Rohan, is home to the Golden Hall of Meduseld, great palace of King Theoden and uncle to Eowyn, the White Lady, and her brother Eomer, Captain of the Eorlingas. But Theoden lies under the spells of Saruman, and Grima Wortongue, who has been poisoning the kings mind in a secret alliance with Saruman. Grima tricks the sickened king into banishing Eomer and the entire army of Rohan, leaving the city defenseless. Merry and Pippin manage to escape the Uruks during the night only to get lost in the midst of Fangorn Forest, an ancient old forest full of memory and anger and ancient creatures. One of these is Treebeard the Ent, a tree-like giant, whose job is to take care of the forests and the trees. Still on their trail, Aragorn and company find someone they didnt expect. Under the faint light of Fangorn, there stood Gandalf, reborn after the cataclysmic fight with the powerful balrog. Now the Fellowship rides to Rohan, to aid the bewitched king. Gandalf exorcises Saruman and frees Theoden, who wakes up from this spell to terrible news. Not only was his only son slain, but he had banished Eomer, and Saruman waged impending war upon the people of Rohan. Theoden had no choice but to empty the city and flee to Helms Deep, the great fortress of Rohan, carved into the mountainside of sharp tall cliffs. Meanwhile, Frodo and Sam arrive to Morannon, the Black Gate of Mordor. But the way is dangerous and too open, which would result in their inevitable capture. Gollum offers a second route, around Mordor, a path close to Minas Morgul, city of the Ringwraiths. Now the hobbits make for the pass of Cirith Ungol, an dark tower high in the mountains. On their way the hobbits encounter Faramir, Boromirs brother, and they are taken captive mistaken for spies of the dark tower. The hobbits will be taken to Osgiliath, city of the men of Gondor. The path to Helms Deep brought many dangers and the loss of many men, not to mention the fact that Sarumans army is already on its way. 10,000 Uruk-Hai bred only to destroy the people of Rohan. With only 300 men at his disposal, Theoden grows weary and worried but determined to meet his doom in pride and glory. Merry and Pippin find themselves in a meeting of many Ents who discuss their part in this upcoming war. Should they fight as part of this world or just weather these problems as they have done in the past? Times grow dark for Frodo, as Faramir discovers through Gollum, that Frodo is carrying the One Ring and sees this as the chance to meet his fathers approval, so he decides to send the hobbits to the Steward of Gondor. An hour of doom is upon Helms Deep, but when all hope seems lost a light shines bright once more. Through the gates of Deep march in an army of elves under the command of Haldir, who comes to honor the ancient alliances and bears word from Elrond and Galadriel. Now at least they have a fighting chance. The battle ensues shortly thereafter only to bring greater chaos. The wall of the Deep is blown up with powder and now the Orcs make their in the fortress. The elves and the Fellowship try to hold them back but the Uruks are too many. Eventually the survivors retreat to the Keep, and less than a hundred find themselves locked in a room trying to keep out the orcs. Theodens only way out is to meet them head on, if he is to die then they will ride out for death and glory and Rohan. One of the most dramatic parts in this battle, as the last soldiers march to the classic phrase: Fell Deeds awake, now for wrath, now for ruin, and a red dawn! FORTH EORLINGAS! Back in the south borders of Fangorn, the ents stand before miles of forests cut down and burnt. They march now to Isengard, The Last March of the Ents. They lay waste upon Sarumans factories, breaking dams, towers, wheels, walls and releasing the wrath of nature upon the Industrial city. Isengard is cleansed. Gandalf, who rode off a few days ago returns with Eomer to aid Theoden, giving victory to the people and ending the battle for Helms Deep. Last in the tale, Faramir finally understands Frodos quest and lets them go. Sam, Frodo and Gollum now journey to the crossroads, but Gollum is tricky and his yearn for the ring will drive him to treachery unseen by Frodo but suspected by Sam. We can only wait and see - To be Continued- |
