THE RULES-FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The players alternate turns. Red, or the dark side ALWAYS
moves first.
QUESTION:
Can you jump one of your own pieces?
ANSWER: NO! Never, under any circumstances, can a single
man or a king jump one of it's own men.
QUESTION:
Are jumps mandatory?
ANSWER: Yes. Jumps must be taken. When you can jump in
more than one direction, or jump more pieces one way,
than another, the option is up to the player, in both
cases.
QUESTION:
Can single men move or capture backwards?
ANSWER: No. Never.
QUESTION: Can single men jump Kings?
ANSWER: Yes. In fact they must. Jumps are
mandatory.QUESTION: Can I "Huff?" (Not take my
jump)
ANSWER: NO. The old "huff" rule permitted one
to "not take his jump" and gave the opponent
the option of taking his man for not jumping. That rule
was abolished long ago. Jumps are mandatory.
QUESTION: What if I overlook a jump?
ANSWER: If a jump is overlooked and another piece moved,
that piece is set back and you are reminded to take the
jump. The penalty for not jumping is "forfeit the
game."
QUESTION: Can a man or king, jump over 2 pieces?
ANSWER: NO. To jump, there must be an empty square
adjacent to the piece or pieces being jumped.
QUESTION: Can Kings "fly" along diagonals to
move or capture, like Bishops in Chess?
ANSWER: NO. Kings move 1 square at a time. Never can it
"fly" along the board.BEING CROWNED. (When is a
king a king) When single man enters king row, for the 1st
time, the turn ends. Your opponent now crowns the piece,
and it can move NEXT TURN.
QUESTION: When am I in a draw?
ANSWER: A draw is when both players agree on a draw. You
may request a draw at anytime. If you and an opponent
agree on a draw, then the game is drawn. The same applies
to a win. You may resign at any time.
QUESTION: What if I cannot move because my pieces are all
confined?
ANSWER: If you cannot move because it's impossible, the
game is lost. The object of the game is to capture
"OR CONFINE" all your opponents pieces so they
cannot move. Checkers is a game of skill, not chance.
End.

| Play
therapy is often used instead of "play
diagnosis". The term was used, along with children's
toys (play-houses, pets, dolls, etc) to help the
diagnostician to try to determine the cause of disturbed
behaviour in a child. Treatment therapists then used a
type of systematic desensitization |
or relearning
therapy to change the disturbing behaviour, either
systematically or in less formal social settings. However
the same processes can be used with any other pre-verbal,
non-verbal, or verbally-impaired persons, such as
slow-learners, brain-injured or drug-affected persons.
Mature |
adults usually
need much "group permission" before indulging
in the relaxed spontaneity of play therapy, so a very
skilled group worker is needed to deal with such guarded
individuals. |
