Infinite Reflections

The Mayan people believed that, when you died
Your soul was brought to another planet
And you were born again
A whole other world to explore, a whole culture to understand
And a new night sky to gaze out of in wonder
As you looked at the stars, would you recognize the sun?
Would you remember Earth?

If the Maya's theory of reincarnation is true,
How many lives could we have lived?
We could have been breathing since the beggining of time
Reincarnated on an infinite number of planets
Taking the form of an infinite number of beings
Living an infinite amount of lives

I sit on Earth staring into the stars of the night sky and it occurs to me
Light takes eight minutes to travel from the sun to our planet
It would take years to reach my eyes from a different galaxy
Centuries from a different universe
I am looking at the remnants of stars, reflections from so many years ago
Many of the stars I gaze into have their own planets
Whose light from long ago is just reaching my eyes
At this moment I wonder, as I look into the planets that I may have lived on
If, at the time that the light from the distant stars was sent,
I was on the star's planet
Looking into the sky

I look into the stars
Or the reflecctions of the stars from long ago
And I realize
I may be looking right back at myself
An incarnation of me from a different lifetime
So long ago
The feeling comforts me and the infinite stars of the night sky no longer seem so overwhelming
As I look into infinite reflections of myself
And I konw, after this life,
I will look back at Earth,
And look back at myself
Or my reflection
