"Not much at all. Why?"
"Ever wonder why the Inn is called Quiet Falls?"
"When I first got here, yes. Wally what do you have up your sleeve?" I raised a single brow and put my hands on my hips.
He giggled. "I was wondering if you would like to see the Inn's namesake."
"Just me and you?"
He nodded, "I was going today and I thought I would invite you along."
I smiled, "I would be delighted. Let me just grab some things and we will get going."
"Kay." He grinned and sat back on the couch. When I returned, he was holding a bag.
"What's that?"
"Mrs. Rose made us some sandwiches."
I glanced over at Mrs. Rose who game me a hearty smile and returned to her dusting. "Shall we?" I motioned to the door.
Wally jumped up and headed out. It was a beautiful day. The temperature was neither to hot nor to cold. The sky had only a few billowy white clouds in the sea of blue.
Birds were singing and Wally was asking me question after question.
"So, where are you from?"
"Scottsdale Arizona."
"The desert." He thought for a moment. "Do you like it there?"
"No, not really."
"Why not?"
I smiled at him, "I've been there for the majority of my life. The heat doesn't bother me. It's just the lack of culture and history. That, and, it doesn't smell like it did when I was little after it would rain."
"Then why are you still there?" I looked at him as he added, "I mean, if you don't know why you are still there, why not move? You do like it here, don't you?"
I smiled at him, "Yes, I do. Very much." For as bright as Wally was, he was still very innocent. I enjoyed being around him for that very reason.
He was silent the rest of the way. He suddenly stopped and motioned for me to do the same. I looked at him quietly as a grin appeared on his face.
"Can you hear that?" He whispered.
"Hear what?" I asked as I strained to hear whatever it was.
"Listen."
We sat there for what seemed like forever, then Wally burst into a run. I did my best to keep up with him. He was a fast kid. He stopped at the edge of a cliff as I bent over to catch my breath.
In a faint whisper he said, "Quiet Falls."
I looked out over the cliff and saw a beautiful waterfall. I was amazed at how quiet it was. A faint rainbow appeared in the mist. It was breath taking.
"This is beautiful," I said looking at Wally.
He smiled softly, "I came here after dad died. Mr. and Mrs. Rose were the ones who showed it to me. I've made it my secret spot. Not even Michael knows about it."
