I wrote this one a few minutes after telling my mom of her favorite Aunts death. I didn't know her very well, but during the trip for her funeral, I found I'm very much like her.
Mortality sends wake up calls all the time
Little things like bumps and bruises are often ignored
A quiet alarm clock goes off
The snooze is hit
And life is continued
***
Every once in a while
Someone we know will be injured
The alarm clock is a little louder
It plays for a little longer
But again
The snooze is hit
And life continues
***
Then someone loved dies
The alarm clock blares
Its questioned and pondered
We allow the alarm to continue
Screaming mortality into the air
But again
The snooze is hit
And life continues
***
