| She was a young 20 years old. She had never been touched let alone kissed by a man. She longed for the sensitivity and warmth that came from a relationship, but she was afraid she would get painfully hurt. She would openly flirt and tease the guys but she never got to close. She never stayed at one job for more than 6 months, if she did she felt trapped. She was at her newest job. She unloaded misc. boxes and stacked them in nice neat piles so the people who needed them could find them easliy. She was the only female on a team of nine. As always, she would prove her strength and determination and then flirt with the other members of her team. She showed up to work one day a few hours early so she could spend some time writing. She was stuck in the middle of a sentance trying to think of the perfect word when she saw him. His body language was different than the rest of the crew. He was an even 6 feet tall. He had a strong square frame, with short, clean cut brown hair. He was obviously much older than her, but she didnt care. He looked up and saw her watching him. She quickly looked down at her notebook of ramblings. When she looked up agian, he was gone. She looked around to see if she could see him somewhere else but he had vanished. She would show up to work the same time every day just to see if he was there. He never was. She began to think his image was a daydream. Then, one late night after work, she was walking to her old '67 mustang, when she felt a pair of eyes watching her. She looked up from her purse and saw his steel blue eyes watching her. He was leaning against his beat up '56 chevy pick-up truck. His arms were crossed and he had one leg bent and resting on the wheel well. She stopped and looked at him. There was a slight smile upon his shavin face. She gave him a smile and a nod and proceeded to her car. She didnt look back though it took every muscle in her body not to. She heard his light footsteps behind her, but she still didnt turn. She could feel his warm breath on the back of her neck. His voice was soft and gentle, yet deep and strong. "I was wondering if you would care to join me for a drink." He whispered. His whispered voice sent shivers down her spine and made the little hairs on the back of her neck stand and salute. She still wouldnt turn around. "Id love to, but im only 20." "Oh. Well, we could go back to my place." She closed her eyes and began to invision what would happen if she did. She had forgotten he was standing behind her waiting for an answer until he said, "well?" She snapped out of her trance and responded, " I dont think that would be such a wise idea." "What if I promised not to bite?" He asked. "What would be the fun in that?" She kicked herself for saying that. He chuckled and handed her a piece of paper and said, "Here's where i'll be if you change your mind." With that he got in his truck and drove off. When she was sure he was gone she stomped the ground and yelled, "WHY WHY WHY WHY do I always have to do that to myself?" She sat at home sipping a mug of hot tea wondering if she should go to the address on the paper. She weighed the pros and cons and realized she would be missing out on something glorious if she didnt go. She grabbed her coat and the small piece of paper and drove over. She sat outside his little one story house and again weighed the pros and cons. There were really only two cons she could think of. One, he was probably old enough to be her father, and two, she might never want to leave his side. The porch light went on and she sank down in the drivers seat. She watched as he opened the front door and set a small package to the right of the door. He looked around, let out a sigh, and went inside. The light went out and she decided to investigate the package. She quietly walked over and looked at the package. There, in perfect print, was her name. She carefully opened it. All that was inside was a letter. It read: "Ive been watching you from the moment you started working here. When out eyes met that cold morning I knew we were ment to be together. I know you have you apprehentions about us being together, as do I. If nothing else at least knock on the door and tell me no. I will, believe it or not, understand. Even thought we have said but a few words to each other, I know you are the light that will guide my heart. Please knock." She folded the note and placed it in her pocket. She stood, for what seemed eternity, staring at his door. She went back to her car and found a small piece of paper and a pen. She wrote a note. It read: "I stood at your door for what seemed like eternity. I tried to hard to knock on your door, but I couldnt convince my body to do so. I guess I'm afraid of what might happen if you answered. If it's at all possible, could you meet me at the coffee shopand just talk. If your not there, I will understand." She placed the note in the box and set it on the chair. She looked at the door one last time, then went back to her car. |
