LOST
KENNYWOOD, PA -- With the end of the season almost at hand
lets take a look at some recent Lost Kennywood news and
notes.
Back To School:
As with any Kennywood
season when the end of the year comes around it signals
the start of another year of school. This season Lost
Kennywood lost Nicole Rizzi, (Barton) Mike Sweeney, (Pitt
Bradford) Kelly McCarthy (John Carrol) and Katie Warren
(Clarion) to colleges more than an hour away. Karl Traeger
and Jeff McCafferty also went away to local colleges and
were able to come back on weekends. Josh Shaver also left
Lost Kennywood reportedly for Bosnia with the armed
forces. Finally Mike McElhinney went M.I.A. but it was
reported that he just couldn't find the time with his
school season starting at the Univ of Pittsburgh.
Fall Fantasy:
The
Fall Fantasy celebration which lasts for 14 days, includes
a nightly parade featuring local bands and themed floats.
The parades had a Lost Kennywood influence this season.
Lisa Woytovich and Josh "Oompa" Goodwin both
appeared regularly during the parade. Oompa (pictured)
appeared on most nights as a Leprechaun.
Dark Week:
The last full week of
the Kennywood season is known around the park as
"Dark Week." This week leads up to the labor day
weekend. During the week the park opens up at 5pm. The
biggest headline coming out of Darkweek 2002 was the
return of veteran Chuck Lippert. Absent from Kennywood
since early July, "The Lip" made his return to
Lost Kennywood during the week it all began for him back
in the 1999 season. Chuck and Amy Lewicki made the move up
to Kennywood after working the season at Sandcastle for
dark week that year.
Chuba Starts School:
Amanda Chuba has begun
her last segment of student teaching at the PACE school.
Once she has completed her teaching in mid-October she
will have finished all her requirements from IUP and then
she can begin looking for a teaching job. Good luck Chuba!
Labor Day:
As
in years past on Labor Day members of the Lost Kennywood
crew came in early to ride some rides for the final time.
Even though this wasn't the final day of the season like
in years past. (and didn't have the same feel) As always
Lost Kennywood has a number of people participating and
also videotaped the events of the day. A special thanks to
Jeff McCafferty and Chuck Lippert for bringing in their
cameras and videotaping the events.
Fright Nights:
Kennywood for the first
time in its history will be opened into October for a
Halloween festival called "Phantom Fright
Nights." The fright nights which will consist of a
mix of approximately 10 rides and 3 haunted houses will
run for six weeks. Many members of the Lost Kennywood crew
will be working in the Haunted Houses as characters or as
operators of some of the rides.
