My father was a diabetic. He had been since he was about 13 years old. I was always his walking glucometer, if his sugar was dropping, I could tell it! But the day of his accident he didn't eat lunch.
The morning of February 28, 2004, was the morning after my sleep-over that I was having for my birthday, which was 2 days after my Daddy was killed. There were 5 girls, 6 including me, and Dad was up and about around 7:00, making us breakfast! He made gravy and biscuits, sausage, eggs, and bacon. It was HUGE, there was SO much food, but it was the best breakfast I've ever had, and it was my LAST memory with my Daddy. |

Dad got a call from a friend, who wanted him to ride with him to Wytheville, and it being the first pretty day that Dad had been praying for, why would he pass up that chance! Dad had been praying for the first pretty and semi warm day to come, so that he could get out and ride! He said what good is a motorcycle if it's gonna sit in the garage all the time?! I didn't get to say good-bye to Daddy that day, and it's something I am going to have to live with forever. He left, and I went to the movies with Maggie and her boyfriend, and Josh, my boyfriend. About 5 minutes before the movie was over, I saw my phone blinking, but I wasn't gonna be rude and talk in the movie theater. I checked to see who it was and it was mom, and so I called her back. She told me dad was in a motorcycle accident, and I knew he was gone, because there isnt much of chance for someone who crashes on a motorcyle, but she told me Daddy was fine. I called back again, and yet again I got that...Daddy is ok! Well, I got home, and Josh and everyone got out to see what was happening and I was greeted by mom with a..."Daddy is gone" I broke down...I went numb. Since Dad didn't eat lunch that day, his sugar dropped. He was TEN minutes away from home, and he just didn't turn a curve when it was there. The motorcycle hit a ditch, and threw Daddy off into rocks...killing him on impact from a broken neck and fractured skull. Pictures of the motorcycle after are posted on the following page. |
