| Adopted in Nebraska This is what I am going to claim as my fustrations page. Fustrations about Adoption In Nebraska. I am a wife of an adoptee, A very fustrated one at that. My husband was born January 1. 1968 in Hastings Nebraska. Given up at birth and adopted out through Lutheran Family Serviced in Omaha. That was all the information that he had about where he came from, until 6 months ago. We had finally received the non-ID information. What a shock it was to learn that he had 3 older siblings. Growing up an only child, 2 sisters and a brother was hard to conceive. The first questions he had, were: Do you they know about me? Are they searching for me? Do they even care I exsist?. Those were questons that I had no answers for but I am willing to find out. I have watched his many differant attitudes towards being adoptive and wanting to reunite with his birth family. I have seen the anger, the hurt, sadness and the feelings of not being wanted. His theory is " If my mom diden't want me, why would anyone else" I believe the hurt feelings increased when he found out about the siblings. If she kepted the other three, why didn't she keep him. Was it because he had a differant father then the others? Or was it that she just wanted the best for him and knew she couldn't provide it. Whatever reason she had, I am grateful for it or I would have never met this wonderful man. He has his faults and alot of his actions come from his hurt feelings but maybe if I can find some answers for him the healing progress can begin. So off I go... searching and searching but only to run into brick walls. We received very little information though the non-id. Everyone that I have contacted has refered me elsewhere, to only end up back where I started... nowhere. At this time, my husband is only wanting medical background, for him and the children.. Is that so much to ask? How can you tell someone that the birth father has possible heart problems and thats all. If you want the agency involved to find this information out, your going to have to pay an arm and a leg for it How can you expect someone to pay for information about themselves? Most of us grow up knowing this information and take it for granted. Most states are opening up records for adoptees but it seems like Nebraska is still as closed lipped as ever. You can change the laws for adopted children now but your forgetting the people of the past that are raising children with no knowledge of their heritage. Hopefully one day, good or bad, I can find some answers for my husband. I'll keep writing as my search goes on. UPDATE: husband is now an EX but I will help continue with his search and keep this site up and going. Might be awhile before i get your infomation posted, put it will get there. good luck on your search Dawn |
