Summon Swarm (Coniuration/Summoning)
Level: Bard 2, Mage 2, Mask 2, Sorcerer 2
Range: 60 yards
Duration: 1 round/level
Casting Time: 2
Area of Effect: 10-yard radius sphere
Saving Throw: Neg.
A swarm of small insects and beetles drawn by the Summon Swarm spell will viciously attack all creatures in the area chosen by the caster. Creatures falling into the area effect of the swarm receive damage equal to 1d4 points + 1 point per three levels of the caster, every round. A saving throw versus spells is applicable against the effects of a Summon Swarm spell to negate all of the damage for that round, but the saving throw must be made during each round of exposure to the insects of the Summon Swarm spell. Regardless of any saving throws (but not magic resistance), spellcasting within the swarm is impossible.
The swarm cannot be fought effectively with weapons, but fire and area effects can force it to disperse by inflicting damage. The swarm disperses when it has taken a total of 2 hit points per caster level from these attacks. A Protection from Evil spell keeps the swarm at bay, and certain area-effect spells, such as a Gust of Wind, a Dispel Magic, and Stinking cloud, disperses the swarm immediately. The swarm is stationary once conjured, and lasts until the duration expires or is dispersed.
