Occasionally, a researching wizard may stumble upon a back door into the minds of sentient beings, an irresistable command that can be issued to the brains of creatures. A spell that utilizes such a pathway into one's psyche is known as a Power Word. The strength of creatures that are vulnerable to a given Power Word corresponds to the mental urgency of that particular command. Power Word: Sleep operates on a relatively benign signal, therefore affecting only creatures with little resistance to mental influence.
This spell compels any creatures of 20 hit points or less in the area of effect to fall into a deep slumber. Even if the maximum hit points of the affected creatures are higher than 20, the current ones are used for determination. Sleeping creatures who are attacked immediately awaken from their slumber. There is no saving throw against this spell.
