When laying the character's hand upon a creature, the character channels negative energy that deals 1d8 points of damage +1 point per caster level (up to +5). Non-living creatures such as undead, constructs, or even elementals are completely unaffected by this spell. Only creatures from the upper planes and the prime material plane are affected.
