Flame
Blade (Invocation/Evocation)
Level: Bard 2, Druid 2, Ranger 2
Sphere: Elemental (fire)
Range: self
Duration: 1 turn
Casting Time: 6
Area of Effect: the caster
Saving Throw: none
In times of great rage over the defilement of nature, an especially zealous defender of the wildlands is able to summon forth a flaming blade-like band of energy with the strength of his will. While his anger burns against those who would profane the wilderness, the flaming brand will set a searing heat into the flesh of its target. To those at whom this wrath is directed, it is a deadly peril. To those who are particularly susceptible to fire, it is a terror.
With
this spell, the caster causes a blazing ray of red-hot
fire to spring forth from his hand. This blade-like
ray is wielded as if it were a scimitar (Small Sword
Proficiency). If the caster successfully hits with
the flame blade in melee combat, the creature struck
suffers 2D4 points of damage, with a damage
bonus of +4 (ie. 3D4 points) if the creature is
undead or is especially vulnerable to fire. If the
creature is protected from fire, the damage inflicted
by the flame blade is reduced by 4 (ie. 1D4 points).
Fire dwellers and those using fire as an innate
attack form suffer no damage from the spell. However,
it is not a magical weapon in the normal sense of
the term, so creatures (other than undead) struck
only by magical weapons are not harmed by it. This
spell does not function underwater.
