Evard's Black Tentacles (Abjuration)
Level: Bard 4, Mage 4, Sorcerer 4
Range: 30 yards
Duration: 1 hour/level
Casting Time: 1 round
Area of Effect: Mutiple tentacles within 30 feet from designated point
Saving Throw: none

This spell conjures many rubbery black tentacles. These waving members seem to spring forth from the earth, floor, or whatever surface is underfoot--including water. There are 1d4 such tentacles, plus one per caster level, appearing randomly scattered about the area. Each tentacle has AC 16, has 20 hit points, an attack bonus of +2, and a Strength score of 19 (+4 bonus).

Each round that a tentacle is not already grappling someone or something, starting the round after it appears, the tentacle makes a grapple attack at a random creature or object within 10 feet of it. The tentacles do not attack each other, nor do they attack objects that are smaller than a Medium-size creature.

The target of a tentacle attack must roll a saving throw versus spells. If this succeeds, the subject suffers 1d4 points of damage from contact with the tentacle and the tentacle is destroyed. Failure to save indicates that the damage inflicted is 2d4 points, the ebon mem-ber is wrapped around its subject, and damage will be 3d4 points on the second and succeeding rounds.
