When
the wizard casts Chain Lightning, arcs of electrical
energy burst from his fingertips. These brilliant
arcs of lightning leap at all enemies near the target
creature, burning them with electrical damage. The
lightning causes 1d8 points of electricity damage
for every level of the caster to the target creature,
1D4 points of electricity damage to all creatures
within 10 feet of the target creature, 1D2 points
of electricity damage to all creatures within 20
feet of the target selected, and 1 point of electricity
damage to all within a 40 feet of the target. If
the target of the lightning saves against spells
only half damage is inflicted. If a creature falls
into the outside radius of this spell, a saving
throw negates all the damage except one point of
electricity damage, which is enough to disrupt spell-casting.
Although allied creatures aren't directly affected
by this spell, they will still suffer a minor burn
~ 1 point of electricity damage per level of the
caster (a saving throw doesn't apply in this case).
