Black Blade of Disaster (Invocation/Evocation)
Level: Mage 9, Sorcerer 9
Range: 20 yards
Duration: 1 round/level
Casting Time: 4
Area of Effect: one blade-shaped planar rift
Saving Throw: special
This spell enables the caster to create a black, blade-shaped planar rift. It moves about as the caster wills, providing the caster can see it. If the range between the caster and the blade exceeds the caster's line of sight at any time, the spell ends. During the spell, the caster may not take any action except for movement. However, the caster may end the spell at will.
Such a blade can be used to strike in battle, thrice per round (it has the same THAC0 as a fighter with the caster's level). The black blade does 1d12 points of damage and absorbs all nonmagical effects. Anyone attempting to seize or physically attack the Black Blade of Disaster is affected as if struck by the blade.
Upon contact with the blade, the unfortunate victim must roll a saving throw at a +3 bonus or disintegrate instantly. Although magic resistance will negate the disintegration effect, nothing short of a Wish or a Miracle will restore a character destroyed in this fashion.
The caster can telekinetically control one blade at a time. If more than one blade is conjured at a time (whether by the same spell or by spells similar to the Mordenkainen's Sword spell), the spell ends instantly.
Only magical attacks, such as a Dispel Magic or an magical weapon may destroy the Black Blade of Disaster. |
