Following his excursion into new spell areas of effect with the Force Helm, Otiluke sought to expand his repertoire and gain experience of channeling from the Para-Elemental Plane of Ice with this spell. While having several combat uses, it was intended for other purposes and Otiluke is said to have been disappointed with the result. Spheres and screens have occupied his attention since.
This
spell causes the caster to project a magical ball
that will magically freeze the ground within a 30-foot
cube. All in that area must attempt a saving throw
or be frozen for a duration totally dependant by
the success made by the creatures' saving throws.
A victim is not harmed but is open to deadly attacks
as he waits helpless.
The
cube will hold those that failed vs. spells at the
following modifier:

-6 for 1 round
* -5 for 2 rounds
* -4 for 3 rounds
* -3 for 4 rounds
* -2 for 5 rounds
* -1 for 6 rounds
* No modifier for 7 rounds
* +1 for 8 rounds
* +2 for 9 rounds
* +3 for 10 rounds
