Lost and Confused
So what better way to start than by introducing yourself?
Peter Olen
This is Pete, the lead singer of the Deathmetal band Dark Faith, and lead guitar player of Creation Consumed.
Lost and Confused
Who are the other band members, and what does each do? It wouldn't hurt to include creation consumed.
Peter Olen
In Dark Faith, Kellan Andersen on Lead Guitar, Karsten Andersen on drums, Chris Smith on keyboards, Kevin Shaw on Rythem, and Paul Thompson on bass. Creation Consumed is primitive blackmetal band, with Dirt on bass (Sadistic artistry frontman), Chris Hutchinson on vocals, Bryan on rhythm Guitar, and Rocky on drums. Creation Consumed is signed to Eternal Evil Records.
Lost and Confused
How long has Dark Faith been playing together?
Peter Olen
Dark Faith was formed in 1996, and put out a self titled demo in 1997.
Lost and Confused
How did you get together? Any line-up changes?
Peter Olen
We all listen to death/blackmetal, and more or less ran into each other years ago. Our lineup has stayed constant throughout the years, with the exception of our bass player leaving and coming back within six months.
Lost and Confused
So as the lead singer, do you also write the lyrics?
Peter Olen
I've written almost all the lyrics, with the exception of three songs, which were written by Kevin.
Lost and Confused
That's quite a few, what kind of message do you hope to express?
Peter Olen
Mostly we express anti-religious views, though sometimes our lyrics lean a little bit towards revolution, vengeance or hatred.
Lost and Confused
Preferably, the revolutionary lyrics should have more of an impact. Do these lyrics formulate through any specific experience worth mentioning?
Peter Olen
Experience? I guess it more so comes from the way the world around us is, the ignorant masses, and followers in their dogmatic slumbers. One would hope these images would inspire anyone to a violent revolution
Lost and Confused
By violent, I assume you mean radical and intense? But lets not forget the music itself, who/what is the band influenced by?
Peter Olen
As far as bands go, we have a huge range of interests. Anything from Children of Bodom,Possessed, Destruction, Death, Cannibal Corpse, AngelCorpse(R.I.P.), Judas Iscariot, Emperor, Morbid Angel, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Hemlock, Blasphemy, Broken Hope, Dissection, Sodom, an amazing list of bands that goes on. As far as reading, H.P. Lovecraft, Nietzsche, Ragnar Readbeard, and many others.
Lost and Confused
Those who are interested can look into that I'm sure. Do you have anything new in the works?
Peter Olen
We just finished our new album, and it should be done being pressed around the end of November. We are doing shows in Tampa, Orlando, Fort Myers, and more or less all around florida. I think in December, we might be doing a week with Cephalic Carnage and Swamp Gas. This summer we should be heading out for two or three weeks
Lost and Confused
How was it in the studio? Will the upcoming release be taking a different direction from previous releases?
Peter Olen
The studio was fucking great. We mixed it ourselves as well, so it came out good, but raw. The studio was more of a competition, to see who could get the most wasted and still record, hell of a lot of fun. The new release will stay as brutal death/thrash metal, no fucking raping, no bullshit Korn riffs, no Slipknot masks, just pure metal.
Lost and Confused
Now that's what I like to hear. Do you have any stories worth sharing about either the studio or while on tour?
Peter Olen
Besides thousands of different stories of cars breaking down, not that many. We've gotten to meet and party with a lot of cool people, like Sammy from Acid Bath, John from Incantation, the guys in Cannibal Corpse are cool, and Leon from Impaled. As far as in the studio, we broke some things, our bass players jumped off a roof and broke open the roof of an outhouse, while all of us stood around drinking and cheering. Mostly just drinking and playing metal. We ended up spending almost more on alcohol then recording time.
Lost and Confused
haha, Well I suppose that's a good thing...wish I was there for the outhouse escapade (sarcasm). Anyway, how would you describe your live performances?
Peter Olen
Just loud metal, fast drums, blood spitting, head banging, and usually a big mosh pit.
Lost and Confused
Blood spitting?
Peter Olen
Yeah, we spit blood into the crowds and on stage.
Lost and Confused
hehe. Is that your idea of fun?
Peter Olen
Hell yes.
Lost and Confused
haha, Its something to see. Of course, I'm invulnerable. Do you have any closing comments?
Peter Olen
Well, besides the fact that I'll be aiming the next mouthful of blood towards Molly, Staying fucking brutal and listen to metal!
Lost and Confused
Thanks Pete, I appreciate your time.
