A devil behind the face of an
angel
Born in
Russia in the 15th Century, Armand was taken from
his home and sold as a slave in Constantinople to
Marius - a great painter who takes him to his
great palazzo in Venice. Armand sees Marius as a
teacher, his Master. At the age of 17 Marius gave
him The Dark Gift, when he was injured by an
English nobleman who had fallen in love with him,
but was also quite insane and tried to kill him.
Their life together was ended when a devil
worshipping coven of vampires lead by
Santino, invaded Marius's palazzo. Marius had
broken their laws "the Dark Ways" and
therefore must be punished. They burned down the
villa with Marius in it and capture Armand. They
teach Armand the Dark Ways of the Roman coven and
he soon took over as Master of a coven in Paris.

"Perhaps it's worth it to
make a foray into the official mortal world once
in a while in order to be called 'a real trouper'
instead of a Boticelli angel, which had become my
tag line among the Undead."

Armand
knows that the Dark Laws are untrue but believes
that they bring a sense of meaning to their
existence. His coven is destroyed when he
encounters Lestat and Gabrielle in Paris. Their
blatant disbelief of The Dark Ways put doubt in
the minds of Armand's coven about the rules that
they are following. Angered, Armand leads his
coven against Lestat and Gabrielle, but it was
too late. He destroys all the vampires in his
coven except for four.
Lestat encourages him to join the four members
who survived his coven at the Theatre des
Vampires as actors, after pleading with Lestat to
allow him to join him and Gabrielle as they
journey. Armand builds a mansion in the place of
Lestat's tower and lives there as an actor and
managing the theatre. Armand doesn't enjoy the
life Lestat gave him and takes revenge on Lestat
by throwing him off the tower when Lestat seeks
his help when Louis and Claudia arrive in Paris.
Armand has Claudia killed for violating the Dark
Laws but tortures he horribly before her
punishment of incineration in the sun.

After
failing miserably to connect with Louis and
Lestat, Armand searches to find his true
companion. He yearns for Marius to be alive and
be his Master again. It is not until he meets
Daniel Molloy when he discovers the companion he
wants. He uses him to connect with the mortal
world by a process of torture and play. He
effectively chases him around the world in a
warped game of "Cat and Mouse". Armand
grants Daniel the Dark Gift on his death bed,
just before Lestat's concert. After the concert
he and Marius are reunited and after Akasha's
death, Marius returns to Armand's villa at the
Night Island.
Now, I loved Interview with the Vampire, but
there was one thing that was *all wrong* and that
would be Antonio Banderas as Armand. No offence
Antonio, you did a great job at the part, your
acting was fabulous but
you were all wrong.
Armand is meant to look 17 years old, and with
red curly hair. Antonio Banderas was well
not.
This is *not* going to turn into a rant now. So
I'll stop. I just though that maybe the casting
for Armand was difficult so they chose to *adapt*
the role.
Armand's fledgling ~ Daniel Molloy
