P/O McCallum was washed ashore 13 August 1941 near kmp
(or stake) 23, 3 km north of De Koog.  He was buried that day
(after being identified), by the people of the municipality.
The original cross was wooden.

It appears his finding was not reported to the authorities,
as he was recorded as being 'Missing In Action' till the War
ended, when his Father was informed.

Johnny was the Observer on Stirling I bomber, N6030 LS -'P' of the
15 Squadron, which had taken off from Wyton, Cambridgeshire on 18 July 1941 for a daylight raid on Wesel, using cloud cover.   They turned back due to clearing skies and the aircraft later crashed somewhere in the North Sea, well off the the province of South Holland, after it was said to have been hit by a night?fighter.
