Auckland, New Zealand.
He was aboard
the Swordfish II bomber DK788, captained by
Sub Lt (A) G
H Ervin RNVR, which was shot down by flak while
bombing the batteries
opposite Diego Suarez and crashed near the
French Military
Barracks. They were taking part in Operation Ironclad
(5-7 May), which
was the code name for the plan to capture Diego Suarez.
All three crew were buried at Antsiranana, but later reinterred at Diego Suarez.
