Arnott Roy MEIKLEJOHN


Sub-Lieutenant (A) in Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve
serving with 829 Sqdn FAA, H.M.S. Illustrious

Died on Wednesday, 6th May 1942 at the age of 25.

Buried in the Diego Suarez War Cemetery, Madagascar.
Grave reference 2 H 1.

Son of Lemuel Sydney Arnott and Elsie Meiklejohn (nee Tibbets),
of Ruakaka, North Auckland, New Zealand.


He was aboard the Swordfish II bomber DK788, captained by
Sub Lt (A) G H Ervin RNVR, which was shot down by flak while
bombing the batteries opposite Diego Suarez and crashed near the
French Military Barracks.     They were taking part in Operation Ironclad
(5-7 May), which was the code name for the plan to capture Diego Suarez.

All three crew were buried at Antsiranana, but later reinterred at Diego Suarez.
