H M Submarine Salmon sailed on her final patrol of the North Sea off the south-west coast of Norway on 4 July 1940.  She was to report her position on 15 July but failed to do so.  The RN thought that she had been bombed and sunk by enemy aircraft.  Other information on the web mentions it may have been more likely that she hit a mine.

Recent info to hand, mentions the possiblity of the Salmon being accidentally depth charged by a Canadian destroyer a few miles off Scapa Flow
