Part of the work will be put on the floor, and part on the
wall. |
Daisy will hand build a number of single units in clay, these will be quite
abstract in shape and form, with one being quite different from the other. For
now, Daisy will call them abstract tiles, although they bear no reference to
mass-produced builders tiles.
On these abstract tiles Daisy will hand paint marks that are dependent one on
the other to form the readable whole - a Chinese character is dependent on the
character that went before it and the character after it, in order for the set
or group to be readable.
Forming the background to these individual abstract tiles will be irregular
wooden shapes, and these too will be painted.
Her complete series will be presented in a rectangular format hung on the
wall and thus make reference to the traditional presentation of a painting.
The concept of the work is "if you lose one piece you cannot read the
whole", perhaps also making reference to a puzzle or jig saw.
