ALICANTE         Alicante is a DO of the Levante region and produces heavy red wines that have traditionally been used for blending. VALENCIA Historically, Valencia has been a bulk exporter of wine. There has recently, however, been considerably investment to improve quality. For red wines, Cencible (Tempranillo) and for white, Macabeo vines are planted. A speciality is Moscatel de Valencia which may be either fortified or not.
