| After a disappointing loss to Bonita last week, the Conqueror squad was determined to get back on track to its goal of winning the Miramonte League. And that's exactly what they did today as Los Altos handily defeated their opponents from Pomona. Superutilityman Michael (Yahoo, Yahoomada) Ahumada made the start for Los Altos. He got off to a shaky start. After striking out leadoff batter Woody Thomas, the DH Cheo Ibarra lined a double to left-center field. With two outs in the inning, three consecutive singles put Garey out on top to a 2-0 lead. However, Los Altos came right back in the bottom half of the first inning with two runs of their own. In the bottom of the second inning, the Conquerors scored two more runs to take the lead that it would not relinquish when Ahumada helped his own cause with a 2-RBI triple to right-center field. After the first inning, Ahumada settled down and gave up only 3 singles and a walk, without allowing another run. He gave way to sophomore Jesus Sanchez in the 6th inning. After striking out the first two batters in the inning, it seemed as if Sanchez would breeze through the inning without incident, but 3 Conqueror errors combined with 2 Garey hits led to 3 runs. Garey had reduced the lead to 10-5, going into the bottom of the sixth inning. Enter sophomore catcher Mario Romero. After starting the season on the disabled list and hitless in his first four games of play, Romero has emerged as both a consistent defensive and offensive force for the Conquerors. With senior Jason Estrada and junior Jesus Rivera on base, Romero launched a 346 foot homerun over the left-field fence for his first career Varsity homerun, putting the game in the refrigerator for the Conquerors.
