Los Altos 4, Bonita 3
7 IP, 11 K... got a problem with that?
I can lay down the squeeze, Coach!!!
Los Altos got back into the swing of things on this Maundy Wednesday. Junior Daniel Sandello (4-1) returned to the mound and put in another great performance against Bonita High School  In the previous matchup between the two schools, Sandello narrowly missed throwing a no-hitter. This time, he lost the no-no in the first inning, but threw a solid overall game, keeping the opposing team off-balance with an assortment of fastballs, mixture of curveballs and a sprinkle of change-ups.

Third baseman Jesus Rivera started things off by reaching first base on an error by the opposing shortstop. He stole second base, advanced to third base and scored on a passed ball, giving the Conquerors the first run of the game.

In the fourth inning, shortstop "Yahoomada" led things off with a single.  Then, Sandello helped his own cause by launching an 0-1 pitch off the wall in left-center field, scoring Ahumada from first base.  After Matt Chambers reached on an error, Jesus Sanchez struck out for the first out of the inning.  With runners at second and third base, Bonita was not about to test right-fielder Jason Estrada. They gave him the ultimate Barry Bonds-like respect by giving him a free pass to first base. With the bases loaded, Adrian Cota laid down the perfect squeeze bunt to give the Conquerors a 3-0 lead.  Then, catcher Mario Romero, who has been on an offensive tear of late, contributed another RBI single to give the Conquerors the 4th and final run for the squad.

After striking out the side in the 4th inning, Sandello hit a bump in the road in the 5th inning. McClellan hit the first pitch of the inning to left field for a basehit.  After striking out Moore, Venegas promptly banged another basehit to leftfield. Sandello struck out Yount but was unable to get catcher Reed out, who got the first RBI of the game with a single to center.  Then, Bonita cut the lead to 4-3 with a two-RBI single by Heslop.  But, that was all Bonita could muster -- not enough to catch-up to the Conquerors.
