| Entering the game, the Conquerors were a woeful 0-8 against Charter Oak in Miramonte league play. Sophomore Jesus Sanchez, who was called to make an emergency start, in place of injured Junior Daniel Sandello hoped to exorcise its Charger demons with a quality start, and he nearly did. The game was tied 4-4 until the top of the 5th inning when Charter Oak got the go-ahead run and never looked back, completing its sweep against Los Altos and putting them in a first-place tie with Bonita. The two schools will face each other in a showdown next week to determine the Miramonte League championship. Sanchez, in going the distance, gave up 7 runs (3 unearned) and 10 hits in the game. His counterpart, Erik Vandenakker, went 5 innings in picking up the victory as he gave up 4 runs (2 unearned). Although matching Charter Oak with 10 hits on the game, Los Altos simply was unable to string together a consistent offenseive attack against the Chargers. The Conquerors had plenty of chances but were unable to get hits with runners in scoring position. Fittingly, the Chargers defeated Los Altos on a game-ending double play. Despite the loss, the Conquerors are well-poised to make it to CIF playoffs. One victory against cross-town rivals Wilson High School will guarantee a berth to the postseason. |
