Los Altos 4, Nogales 3
I can't bunt, but I can hit doubles..... Someone call for a fireman???
The Conquerors finished up the La Habra tournament with a victory against Nogales High School for a 3rd place showing. Senior Jeff Varela picked up his 2nd victory of the year in relief for the Conquerors, as Los Altos came from behind with 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to win by a score of 4-3.

Starting pitcher Daniel Sandello was unable to find his control today, walking 5 batters in a little over 2 innings.  However, Nogales was only able to score 3 runs off of Sandello.  Varela relieved Sandello with the bases loaded and 1 out, with the count 2-0, in the 3rd inning.  Varela showed his Conqueror grit as he was able to notch his first strikeout of the year and then induce the first of his many groundballs to end the Nogales threat.

Varela showed some offense as well, as he hit a sacrifice fly in the 2nd inning to put the Conquerors' first run on the board.

The Los Altos bats stayed silent until the 5th inning when Anthony Chubrock Ortiz led off the inning with his trademark single to right-center field.  After Ortizs stolen base, second baseman Josh Cortez put on a baseball clinic with a groundball to second base that he was able to beat out.  A sacrifice bunt by catcher Mario Romero that moved Cortez to second base set the stage for right fielder Adrian Cota.  After a failed squeeze attempt, Cota poked a double down the right field line to tie the game at 3-3.  After pinch-hitter Jason Estrada moved Cota to third base on a fly ball to right field, 3B/cornhusker Jesus Rivera promptly banged a basehit to left field to give the Conquerors a 4-3 lead that it would not relinquish.

The Conquerors return to action on Wednesday, March 17, against Walnut High School @ 3:00 PM.
