This game, however, was not lost in extra innings; it was lost in the first. Two errors in the first inning led to 5 unearned runs (6 total) that erased the two runs that Los Altos put up in the opening frame.
The Conqueror's, however, were able to battle back and eventually take the lead going into the top of the 7th inning. Los Altos missed their chance in the 6th inning when they were able to load the bases on an error and two walks to start off the inning. Ahumada made the first out of the inning with a meek pop-up to first base.. Estrada then hit a flyball to rightfield that Frank Olivas misplayed for an error, allowing sophomore Adrian Cota to score the go-ahead run for the Conquerors, but that was it. With the bases still loaded, Jesus Sanchez was unable to give himself added cushion as he grounded into a 4-6-3 doubleplay to end the inning.
Sanchez came in relief of Estrada in the 3rd inning, and pitched very well. He retired the 10 batters he faced until giving up consecutive singles to Munoz and Ortega in the 6th inning. However, it was Apodaca's day at the plate. In addition to his walk-off homerun, he led off the bottom of the 7th inning with a double to the gap in right-center, and scored on a single by Johnson to give Covina the equalizer.
