The younger Merrill's squad got off to a quick start as Mike Ahumada scored in the first inning on a basehit by Matt Chambers. The Conquerors exploded for 5 more runs on a walk by Jason Estrada, flyout by Adrian Cota, and then four consecutive basehits by Mario Romero, Edward Tomsio, Jesus Rivera, and Mike Ahumada in the second inning to propel the Conquerors to a 6-0 lead.
The Conquerors won the game handily but the story of the game was when Senior Sunny Simmons entered the game as a pinch-runner. With one out in the 6th inning, Estrada got a basehit and Simmons was summoned to serve as a pinch-runner. Cota promptly banged a basehit to rightfield to send Simmons to second and a subsequent groundout to second base sent Simmons to third base. Unfortunately, the Conquerors were unable to drive in Simmons from third base.
Ahumada bounced back nicely from his subpar performance against Wilson and went a solid 6 innings, giving up 3 runs (1 earned) while striking out 7. Senior Jeff Varela pitched the bottom of the 7th inning to close out the game.
