MASON INFO

MASON IN May1879, a letter of Mason's was read
at the meeting of the ANS and Archaeological Society,
he wanted to sell his Confederate half dollar;
also his reverse die also for sale, susposedly from taylor
The existence was not known .
HERALD PUBLICATION, in June 1879, first issue Herald,
Mason published
details of the discovery. Note its mason tring to sell his coin,
not taylors letter.
Do not forget his info is not Taylors, but a person trying
to sell his coin and half a coin die, susposedly from taylor.
chain of edivence broken without letter from Taylor.
Upon learning of this the editor of the American Journal
of Numismatics suggested that should be restored to its true ownership,
and that it be placed in the Federal Mint Cabinet.
Again this response is to info supplied to them by mason.

The obverse die, we hear, was claimed by the government;
why not the reverse also?
The obverse was 28 mm, not 30, those who then used the confederate
die were forced to expand the 28 mm to 30,
since this was the only obverse available.
THIS is because taylor only kept reverse and coin, no obverse die
since it was similar to die that was available, federal obbverse..

The chain of edvience to this coin is broken,
the letter of a coin broker
trying to sell his coins, and die that he claims Taylor sold him, ?.
also to closerto to letter response to war dept.
Lets see Taylors letter.

THEN MASON PRODUCES THE COIN AND DIE , ALLEGED FROM TAYLOR
THAT HE SAID HE BROUGHT, TO A.N. SOCIETY AND TRIES TO SELL IT TO THEM.
NOT SELLING THEM, THEN SELLS THEM TO SCOTT.
WITHOUT BILL OF SALE OR LETTER FROM TAYLOR, RED FLAG.

1879 Taylor sent his coin, together with the original
reverse die,to E. Mason Jr. , to tell the public of the coin's existence.
remember he never sent the obverse, it was seized by the givt and later lost or stolen. i believe mine has this obverse 28 mm, not 30, they were forced to use the federal obverse and fuse, to 30 mm.

could trails changed the accepted
weight, size, since they minted only 4 coins.
because they were on trail runs as die trails.
maybe more than four, if letters from taylor to wright cannot be found,

I tried and cannot find official info on coins weight.
, and composition , or and where is it listed it was a proof.
Also unknow weight of these 4 coins if they weighted the same.
Also letters from Wright to Taylor, and Taylor to Wright cannot be located
in Wash. D.C, see their letter to me.
I know it was done on a hand press with a collar, mine is milled by collar,
but has a small section about a quarter of an inch not milled,
it was put there by the collar, in milling by a broad strick,
this occurs on milling with hand press, forming raised ridge and
irregular rim.
SELLS TO SCOTT, ALLEGED TAYLORS COIN. TO KEEP CHAIN OF EDIVENCE ALIVE,
A-NEEDED LETTER FROM TAYLOR TO MASON JAN 1879.

B-LOCATION OF LETTER FROM WAR DEPT TO TAYLOR. NOT IN ARCHIVES.

C-LETTER FROM TAYLOR TO WAR DEPT, NOT IN ARCHIUVES.

D-LETTER OR BILL OF SALE FROM TAYLOR TO MASON.

WITHOUT THESE ITS ALL HERESAY AND QUESTIONABLE,
IN A COURT OF LAW, ALL NOT ACCEPTED AS EDIVENCE.
