We found out if Suggs is enjoying the madness of being the new presenter on Salvage Squad...6th Jan 2003

Chat Ed : Welcome to this evening's SALVAGE SQUAD chat with their new presenter, SUGGS! ...and here is the man himself... say hello!

Colin Finch : Hello Suggs!
Tilezzzzz : Hi sugs!

Suggs : Hello everyone! I'm so pleased you watched the show, Happy New Year!

Chat Ed : First, let's get the pun out of the way :)

ARD : Have you enjoyed the Madness of Salvage Squad?
Suggs chuckles
Suggs : Yes, it's been quite a different project for me, but one that I have found very interesting and this year, instead of Glastonbury, it was the Dorset Steam Fair. Equally exciting.

SamM : I guess this will ba asked a few times: Why? What drew you to presenting this programme (very well I might add?)
treasureisle : Hi Suggs! How did you get involved in presenting the programme - is it an area that is of personal interest to you?

Suggs : I was asked to do the programme by the production company and I think as I reach the latter stages in my life I have become more interested in things other than plectrums and leather trousers (not that I ever wore leather trousers I hasten to add).

nigel : how has the mill, and miller got on since the programme was filmed ? and has the dodgie shaft held??
TheFixer : Is the mill open to the public

Suggs : It has held, just! Yes, it is open to the public occasionally and if you want to go and see it check out the Tourist Office in Bishops Waltham. Jeremy is going to try and open it more in the summer.

Alan : What was the second wheel at the mill used for?
matthew ayrton : sugg's:- why was there two water wheels, and only one working? what was the other one for?
martin : What was the second millwheel used for?
Kevin : Do you know if the second mill wheel be restored?
Glen : Hello what was going on re the second wheel? Please state situation re it?

Suggs : The other wheel powered another 2 millstones, but we just didn't have the time or money to finish that one as well, it was a Georgian wooden wheel, which Jeremy does hope to restore in time.

Gilbo : Great show Suggs, do you have a tech interest normaly?
goldmember : Are you at all mechanically minded, suggs

Suggs laughs
Suggs : No, I've got to say I did have a great deal of help in understanding the technical side of things, although I may have sounded very well informed during the programme - so a lot of that information came from other people.

Dilligaf : What did the Bread REALLY taste like?
Suggs : The bread really, genuinely tasted great. I got a minor case of indigestion from just eating raw bread for 45 minutes, but it really was delicious. I think Jeremy's plan is to sell flour from the mill as well.

Bear : Great show Suggs ! AS a copycat Suggs in my youth I too have grown to appreciate our Great Heritage. Well done to all concerned. Keep it up. When's the next Madstock ?
madstock2000 : its good to see you presenting such an interesting programme, i have to ask, as a Madness fan, will there be a Madness 'Madstock' concert at Finsbury pary ever again?

Suggs : Thank you very much both of you. Yes, very possibly this summer there might be one, although nothing is definite yet.

Thomo : So now you can make bread are you gonna do Celeb Big Bro 4??
Suggs laughs
Suggs : The bread makers have different fates don't they, I'm not sure how long they last. Maybe I'll just bring the mill and put the whole programme through the mill.

One step beyond : What other projects can we look forward to?
MR CLAYPOLE : what other things can we expect from later editions of the show?
Suggs : Next week it's a steam powered carousel and we have also done a 3-wheeler Morgan car, a tram (very exciting show), a fire boat that worked during the blitz on the Thames, a locomotive that was used in the 20s in France, a steam plough and a dustbin lorry.

Tilezzzzz : Does chan 4 pay for the repairs?
Lloyd : How much did the mill take to rebuild?

Suggs : It took 4 months of time and a lot of money - more than we had! It was worth every penny.

Post Pubescent Madne : Did anything go wrong during the making os the show?

Suggs : Only what you saw in the programme and maybe it didn't look as dramatic as it was, like when the actual wheel itself was touching the bottom and when the pumps weren't working, but in the crazy spirit of British men and women it was all taken light-heartedly.

nad : Which edition did you enjoy most?
ray woody woodage : what has been the best one of the series
Adrain Mills : What was your favorite thing to do up in the show

Suggs : I've got to say, my favourite was the dustbin lorry because it was very different from anything else and the guy who it belonged to was a very, very interesting character, he should probably have a whole series made about him, he's a national treasure.

Jerry_Dammers : Suggs - do you think this series might provide some inspiration for song writing? I reckon you'll be meeting some interesting characters!
Suggs : Um..yeah, yeah it's true, I do like meeting new people and a lot of my songs in the past have been about eccentric people and I have certainly met a few of those. I could definitely get an albums worth out of Steve the dustbin man.

sue : who chooses which projects get on the programme
james : how do i submit a project for the salvage squad????

Suggs : It's either by having a good vehicle , a good story, or something with a good history , or all 3... past projects for this series were found through the website, so good luck, but we don't do husbands!
