| Thu 31 Oct 2002 12:41 MADNESS IN LONDON! A musical based on the songs of Madness opened in London this week to rave reviews. 'Our House', described by composer Andrew Lloyd Webber as "tremendous", incorporates the bands greatest hits into a contemporary London love story. Tracks including 'Baggy Trousers', 'My Girl', 'It Must Be Love', 'Embarrasement' and the title song, 'Our House', are featured in the musical, alongside two brand new Madness compositions. The cast, who received a standing ovation at the premiere on Monday, were joined on stage by the band, led by frontman Suggs. He said: "I am very proud. This shows you can take the man out of the street but you can not take the street off his head." Bassist Mark Bedford told the BBC: "It was fantastic. We are just delighted with the way everything worked." Lloyd Webber concluded that the show was, "the most impressive debut by a musical director I have seen in my career". 'Our House' is now playing Monday-Saturday at the Cambridge Theatre, London. |
