| Miss Schiros Very Important Information! Supplies: Please refer to the supply sheet you received at Open House. Our lunchtime is at _________. Lunches are _______ for students and _______ for adults. Breakfast is _______ for students and ________ for adults. Please feel free to join us for lunch ANY time! If your child is changing from their normal means of transportation, they MUST bring a note to school. Without a note, I am required to send your child home by their normal means of transportation. ***Sparkle Folders and Agendas: This is something I am asking you as parents and family to work with me to make sure your child receives and returns this folder to/from school Monday-Friday. Your child will receive a large gallon size Ziploc bag containing their Southwood Agendas and a colored folder. The AGENDAS are for you to write notes to me, homework assignments, and weekly word wall words. This is also where I will assign a smiley, straight, or sad face for your childs behavior. This must be signed nightly that you have seen it. The SPARKLE folders will hold any actual homework worksheets, reading log, books, typed notes from me or from the office, calendars, basically ANYTHING important. Each item will have its on designated space, and I have even purchased little zip pockets so that you can send money safely in them to school. Please look over the folders AND agendas each night with your child and sign and return any appropriate forms, including homework, immediately. IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT THAT YOU CHECK YOUR CHILDS AGENDAS FOR ALL ASSIGNMENTS AND INITIAL ANY NOTES I MIGHT HAVE WRITTEN YOU. This may seem excessive but I assure you that the purpose is in the best interest of your children. 5. *****On Fridays, your child will bring home the following: 1. Their sparkle folder with the WEEKLY progress report inside. Please sign and return IMMEDIATELY in the folder on Monday. 2. A large envelope with your childs work home every week in this. Please look over all of the items in the envelope and sign the front, so that I know you have reviewed it. This should return with your child EVERY Monday, with one piece of work that your child is most proud of from that week. 3. Your childs agenda. Please look over this as well. 6. *********Every Thursday, your child will bring home a newsletter in their sparkle folder. It will be in the middle of the folder. This will be a personal letter for me, reminders, and the homework sheet for the following week will be on the back. Please save this , and even post the homework sheet on your refrigerator! (While it will also be in your childs agenda, it seems to work best for me to have it posted, as well =)) 7.**********Every MONDAY, your child will receive a homework packet with the homework for that week. I assign Problem Solving homework on Tuesday night, Math Reinforcement Homework on Wednesday night and Writing Homework on Thursday. This homework can be done throughout the week, at your and your childs convenience as long as it is ALL turned in on FRIDAY in your childs sparkle folder! 8.****Reading: Every week, your child will bring home a Book Baggie containing 4 books and 1 folder. Each night, Monday through Thursday, your child may pick one book from the baggie. Each book can be read TO the child OR the child can read it by him/herself. It all depends on the difficulty of the book. The focus of take home reading is to work on comprehension (which is a NECESSARY part of reading). After your child reads the book, use the back of the Reading Log for ideas of questions to ask each night. Check off the questions you asked each night and then assign a grade for your childs ability to comprehend the story. Please fill every portion of the sheet out for each night and your child will turn this is in EVERY Friday. This is how I will know if your child is reading at home. There is also a place for you to write any additional comments. This is very important and will help me assess your childs progress. 9. ALL MONEY should be sent with your child in the Receipt and Money Holder in your childs sparkle folder. Please use the lunch money baggies and special project baggies that will be included in the holder to send money so that we know what it is for. 10. Every morning, your child will be allowed to eat a snack brought from home. Please send this snack daily separately from your childs lunch. 11. If your child needs to take medication at school, you need to fill out the proper forms in the office. NO medication is allowed to stay in the room, including cough drops, Tylenol, nose sprays, or itch creams. 12. Scholastic Book Order Forms will go home every month. Please keep your eyes peeled! At this age, books can be such an incredible gift and remember, the more you buy for your child, also means more books that are able to be purchased for the classroom. 13.Volunteers are always welcome! If you would like to come help teach on a consistent schedule weekly/daily basis, feel free! If you would like to come in once in a w20. You might want to send an extra change of clothes for your child to have in case of any sort of accident or emergency. I will store these in a hidden place in the classroom. Please send these clothes in a plastic grocery bag with your childs name written on it. If you have ANY questions at all, please do not hesitate to ask. These cupcakes must be purchased and cannot be handmade. If you would like to invite members of our class to a private birthday party, it is also Southwoods policy that invitations are given to me , so that I can distribute them to the class in the afternoon before dismissal. Finally, it is ALSO policy that an invitation is sent to EVERY member of our class!! Any food sent in that is allowed under Southwoods food policy (store-bought) must be cleared and discussed with me at least two days prior to sending it in!! 18. Save those Box-tops for Education off your cereal boxes, etc, and Campbells Soup labels and send them in with your child as much as possible!
