Miss Schiro's Star Behavior System

I as a teacher will work to promote good behavior and positive attitudes in the classroom. The most effective way to manage behavior is prevention of the bad behavior.

I will do this by:

1. Keeping my students actively engaged in learning.
2. Leading a fair, structured, and consistent learning environment.
3. Giving specific and easy to understand expectations.
4. Establish solid routines and procedures for the entire school day.

It is our job as a class, however, to work together so that we can all do our jobs!

Our Class Expectations:
We will respect ourselves and others.
We will take responsibility for what we do.
We will try and learn.
We will use good manners.
We will listen and follow directions

To help this set of expectations, our class will discuss what each of these behaviors looks and does not look like, model how to solve problems in the classroom, and use the following behavior management system:
**PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL BEHAVIOR WILL BE NOTED IN THE AGENDA DAILY SO THE AGENDA MUST BE SIGNED IN THE SMALL BOXES EACH NIGHT!!!!**

Each student has a card holder, placed on a wall all together. Each holder has a:

blue card- 3 points each.
green card- 2 points each.
yellow card- 1 point each.
red card- 0 points.

Each child must reach 12 points (this is subject to change based on classroom needs or an individual basis) if they would like the Friday reward.

Each student will start the day on blue. If students need to improve their choices, the following behavior system is used along with this card:

1. Warning 1, chance to fix it.
2. Warning 2, chance to fix it (this may be omitted based on severity or if the child is obviously repeating the action on purpose).
3. Childs card is changed to green, chance to fix it. Look for a brief explanation in the childs agenda.
4. Childs card is changed to yellow, chance to fix it. Look for a brief explanation in the childs agenda.
4. Childs card is changed to red, chance to fix it. Look for a brief explanation in the childs agenda.

ALSO: the following will also occur based on severity or need:

Phone Call/Letter Home *Note: This is an automatic if student attempts to harm another student physically.
Principal's Office *Note: Incident will be brought to principal's/assistant principal's attention if a student attempts to harm another student physically. If needed, further action will be taken.

**Note: I will not, for any reason, let the disruption of one student disrupt the entire class.

At the end of the week, students who reach at least 12 points (subject to change according to class needs) total will receive these intrinsic rewards:
Special center time (30)
Special Friday snack
*Special Request- If a child or group of children would like to do something special, they may ask the teacher. If the teacher grants permission, this can count as a reward. If not, the students should choose another reward.

If a child for some reason, does not accumulate these points, while the rest of the class is participating in special centers, etc. we will conference regarding behavior and a plan will be made to work harder from then on. This plan could be verbal, written, or created with pictures.

*Note: This is not the ONLY method of behavior modification we will use in the class. Some children will require individual behavior plans, which will accompany or compliment the class plan. These will be developed in a "team" fashion with parents, classroom teachers, guidance counselors, and any special area teachers involved, in a way that will meet each individual child's needs.

**If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call, stop by, or write me a letter. I will be glad to discuss any feelings regarding this topic and encourage parent involvement! The best way our children can succeed is if we all work together to make the best choices for them.
Thanks so much!!
