The Buru Red Lori, Eos bornea cyanonothus
See also Moluccan Red Lory
Distribution
This species is found in Buru, Indonesia. It's habits are little known, due to restrictions against admitting foreigners, which were enforced until the late 1980s. In the 1920s it was known to be common.
Plumage
The Buru is an overall darker shade of red, almost approaching maroon on the breast. The blue is more cobalt. It is smaller than the moluccan red lory and slightly more slender.
General InformationIn the late 1980s, fairly large numbers were imported into Europe (and, no doubt, into other countries), whereas previously this race was either seldom seen or seldom recognized.
