A Wish
She laid her tired head down to cry,
She still loved him, she wondered why.
On her empty bed, her lifeless body lay,
She was nothing but a doll of human clay.

The sun set across the horizon,
To a place where her heart was once a-blazen.
Her heart was now tired and cold,
She no longer needed someone to hold.

She touched her fingers to her tearful cheek,
All alone on her bed she felt so meek.
And she shook her head undecidingly,
As she cried herself to slumber silently.

She opened her eyes and saw the silver moon,
But she snuggled up more in her blanket cocoon.
She felt so alone, in this quiet darkness,
She didn't want peace, she wanted stillness.

The stillness of her heart and of her confused mind,
She knew her eyes will never again shine.
She thought for a moment and decided not to,
For it was thinking that made her so blue.

She decided that her mind was causing all,
Of her aches and the night's beckoning call.
She shook her head gently to clear her blur vision,
And then just lay there, being quiet to listen.

She heard her soft and shallow breathing,
And even each thump of her heart beating.
These sounds somehow soothed her tensed nerves, With that thought she uttered a soft sigh,
And watched as the moon rise in the sky.
A sudden light lit up the dark night,
She saw a shooting star and wished upon its light.

She wished for a companion, to so willingly love,
And again she wished upon the stars above.
And she would do so till her very last years,
At last she closed her eyes and entered her slumber.
